‘Navarasa’: Mani Ratnam’s 9 segment's Netflix Anthology Releases Today

As previously reported, Mani Ratnam planned to engage with Netflix for the anthology web series in order to gather COVID-19 cash for Tamil film industry daily wage workers.

On Friday, August 6, Navarasa, the anthology film that marks renowned filmmaker Mani Ratnam's OTT debut, premieres on Netflix. Priyadarshan, Gautham Menon, Karthik Subbaraj, Bejoy Nambiar, Karthick Naren, Rathindran Prasad, Sarjun, KM, Vasanth, and Arvind Swami are among the nine great directors collaborating on Navarasa, a nine-film anthology.


The project released on Netflix on Friday, August 6 at 12.30 p.m. Suriya, Vijay Sethupathi, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Prakash Raj, Siddharth, Yogi Babu, Bobby Simha, Anjali, Delhi Ganesh, Revathy, and others star in Navarasa, which will contain nine films based on the nine rasas aka emotions.

When it comes to the technical team, Navarasa has some of Tamil cinema's best, including veteran cinematographer PC Sriram, musicians AR Rahman, Santhosh Narayanan, D Imman, Govind Vasantha, Ghibran, Karthik, Justin Prabhakaran, Arul Dev, Ron Ethan, and others. Mani Ratnam's home banner, Madras Talkies, is financing Navarasa.


9 segments of Navarasa:

1. Edhiri by Bejoy Nambiar (Compassion)


Mani Ratnam's longtime associate Bejoy Nambiar directed the segment, which is focused on the rasa 'Karuna' aka compassion. The key actors in the section are Vijay Sethupathi, Prakash Raj, Revathi, and Ashok Selvan. Edhiri's music composed by Govind Vasantha.

2. Summer Of 92 by Priyadarshan (Laughter) 


Summer Of 92 is directed by Priyadarshan, a prominent director, and is focused on the rasa 'Haasya,' or laughter. In this episode, Yogi Babu, Nedumudi Venu, and Remya Nambeesan play the key roles. The soundtrack is composed by Rajesh Murugesan.

3 Project Agni by Karthick Naren (Wonder) 

The rasa 'Adbhuta' aka wonder is the subject of this Karthick Naren directed segment. In Project Agni, Arvind Swamy, Prasanna, Sai Siddharth, and Poorna play the key roles. The music composed by Ron Ethan Yohan.

4. Payasam by Vasanth S Sai (Disgust) 

Vasanth S Sai directs Payasam, which is focused on the rasa 'Bibhatsa' aka disgust. In this episode, Delhi Ganesh, Rohini, and Aditi Balan performed the key roles. The soundtrack is composed by Justin Prabhakaran.


5. Peace by Karthik Subbaraj (Peace) 

The Navarasa segment directed by Karthik Subbaraj is based on the rasa 'Shaanta' ana peace. The key characters in Peace are played by filmmaker Gautham Menon, Bobby Simha, Master Tharun, and Sananth. The soundtrack is composed by Santhosh Narayanan.


6. Roudram by Arvind Swami (Anger) 

The renowned actor Arvind Swami is making his directorial debut with the segment Roudram, which is based on the rasa 'Roudra' or anger. Riythvika, Sree Raam, Abhinayashree, Ramesh Thilak, and Geetha Kailasam star in the section. Roudram's music composed by AR Rahman.


7. Inmai by Rathindran R Prasad (Horror) 

Inmai stars Parvathy Thiruvothu, Siddharth, Pavel Navageethan, Rajesh Balachandran, and Ammu Abhirami and is based on the rasa 'Bhayaanaka' aka fear. Ratheendran R Prasad directed the part. The soundtrack is composed by Vishal Bharadwaj, a well-known composer.


8. Thunintha Pin by Sarjun KM (Valour) 

Atharvaa Murali, Anjali, and Kishore play the major parts in the segment, which is centred on the rasa 'Veera' meaning valour. Sundaramurthy KS compose the soundtrack for Thunintha Pin, which is directed by Sarjun KM.


9. Guitar Kambi Mele Nindru by Gautham Menon (Romance) 

The popular actor-director pair Suriya and Gautham Menon are reunited for a segment centred on the rasa 'Shringaara' meaning romance in Navarasa. In Guitar Kambi Mele Nindru, Prayaga Martin plays the female lead. The songs and original score were composed by singer Karthik. The editing is done by Anthony.
