Naveen Patnaik lauded as India’s men hockey team won bronze, here’s why

On Thursday, the India men’s hockey team defeated Germany 5-4 in a bronze medal match, ending 41-year-old wait for an Olympics medal. The last time, Indian hockey team bagged the (Gold) medal was in Moscow Olympics in 1980. India played an excellent game against the Germans and made a thrilling comeback to script history. 

Many people appreciated the team India team but one more person was equally appreciated for his contribution towards hockey. The netizens are thanking Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for constantly supporting the men’s and women’s hockey teams.

Naveen Patnaik on August 2 said that residents of Odisha are proud of their state government as it is helping India's men’s and women’s hockey teams since 2014. Reportedly, the Odisha government has invested nearly Rs 150 crore and has sponsored both hockey teams since 2018. 

After the victory of team India over Germany on Thursday, Naveen Patnaik has appreciated once again. 

Famous producer Atul Kasbekar thanked Odisha CM and tweeted, “Let’s mark this as a watershed day for the resurgence of #IndianHockey. Let’s this be the beginning of the second era of its golden age. Well played lads. I’m actually shaking what joy. And thanks again to the likes of @Naveen_Odisha and @sports_odisha who believed and backed.

He continued and wrote, “Well done to the coaching staff and to the administrators at @TheHockeyIndia. Grateful thanks from a very happy and proud nation. Onwards and upwards from here.

After this appreciation post by a Bollywood producer, many netizens thanked Odisha CM and congratulated team India for scripting history. 

One of the Twitter users thanked Naveen Patnaik and wrote, “You are a savior of the Indian hockey team. Congratulations”

Former cricketer Kirti Azad tweeted, “Thank you for your relentless support to Indian Hockey. Naveen Patnaik only you deserve all praise.”

Naveen Patnaik himself congratulated the team and talked to them after the victorious game. Mr Naveen tweeted, “Spoke to the victorious stars of Indian Men’s Hockey and congratulated them on their spectacular win over Germany to win the Bronze medal in Tokyo 2020. May they continue to shine and bring more glory for the nation.”
