Sparking yet another controversy, Punjab Congress unit head Navjot Singh Sidhu used foul language during a press conference at the Congress Bhawan in Chandigarh on Friday. He was speaking at the launch of the Urban Employment Guarantee Mission, which promises urban labour the right to employment if Congress maintains power in the state.

On social media, a 20-second video of the outspoken Congress leader using a Hindi swear word has gone viral. In the video, Sidhu's unacceptable response comes when a journalist asks question on the distribution of labour cards by the state government.

The question that made Sidhu lose his cool was - 'how does state's scheme is different from the programme initiated by Central government.'

While some Twitter users mocked Sidhu in the video's comments, others defended him saying it is a "typical Punjabi thing."

This is not the first time that Sidhu has been in the headlines for using abusive language. Months earlier, a video of Sidhu using abusive word of Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi had gone viral. The video was of Congress' protest march against Lakhimpur Kheri violence.

"This man (Channi) will sink the Congress in 2022," Sidhu is heard talking to Minister Pargat Singh in the video.

Sidhu’s big blunder comes at a time when ruling Congress is already facing several challenges in the poll-bound state. The Charanjit Channi government has been left red-faced after ADGP Asthana’s letter questioning the STF drug report got leaked. At the same time, top Congress leaders are being accused of receiving kickbacks for SSP postings in the state.

Punjab will hold state assembly elections early next year. As the ruling Congress is trying hard to show a united front, opposition AAP, SAD and Captain Amarinder’s Punjab Lok Congress in alliance with BJP have started gaining momentum.
