New Covid restrictions in Punjab – here’s what's allowed and not

The pandemic Corona is not retreating. In fact the devastating disease is gaining new ground with every passing hour. Punjab is one of the many states in India which has been unable to pose any challenge to Covid. But, things may change now as the state Chief Minister, Captain Amarinder Singh puts his Covid plan into high gear. What are the new Covid restrictions?

Yesterday, the Chief Minister of Punjab, Captain Amarinder Singh decided to extend the night curfew by two hours making outside movement for any non-essential activities from 6 pm to 5 am is illegal.

Under this, the shops (including malls and multiplexes) have to be closed by 5 pm i.e. one hour before the curfew timings begin.

Home delivery of food will be allowed till 9 pm.

Further, Saturday and Sunday are complete lockdown now i.e. weekend curfew. The shops will be closed from Friday 5 pm to Monday 5 am.

Today, fresh guidelines which build upon yesterday’s decisions have been announced.

The additions or changes are as follows:

All private offices including service industry allowed to “work from home” only.

Still, the following activities are exempt from the above-mentioned restrictions but will be under Covid-appropriate behaviour:

·        Chemist shops

·        Shops dealing with supply of essential goods like milk, dairy products, vegetables, fruits etc.

·        Manufacturing industry. Movement of employees/labour of manufacturing industry and vehicles carrying them is allowed. However, concerned industry shall issue them requisite permission for the purpose.

·        'To and fro' movement of passengers travelling via air, trains, buses etc.

·        Construction activities in both the Urban and rural areas.

·        Agricultural including procurement, horticultural, animal husbandry,  veterinary services.

·        E-commerce and movement of all goods.

·        Vaccination out-reach camps.

Strict implementation of Covid-appropriate behaviour will be enforced.
