Olympian Kamalpreet Kaur felicitated with ₹ 10 Lakh

Olympian Kamalpreet Kaur and her coach Rakhi Tyagi were felicitated with ₹10 lakh and ₹2.5 lakh respectively for impeccable performance at the Tokyo Olympics.

After making the whole nation proud by a breathtaking performance in the Tokyo Olympics, Athlete Kamalpreet Kaur and her coach Rani Tyagi were felicitated with ₹10 Lakhs and ₹2.5 Lakhs respectively by Harvest International School and Harvest Tennis Academy, Jassowal.

Kamalpreet Kaur represented India in the Women's Discuss throw event in the Tokyo Olympics. Though she didn't win a medal her impeccable performance caught the sight of many fans worldwide. She took the 6th rank and the Women's Discuss throw event. After Gold medal winner Neeraj Chopra, Kamalpreet Kaur was the only Indian to represent India in the finals of an Olympics athletics event. Her performance was India's best-ever performance at the Olympics Discuss throw event. Kamalpreet measured a best throw of 63.7m

During the ceremony, Mr. Hardeepak Singh IAS (retd) rewarded both Kamalpreet and Rakhi with cash rewards as well as a victory shield. Kamalpreet Kaur's mother Rajinder Kaur, her sister Harjot Kaur and her brother Satinder Singh were also acknowledged by the school authorities.

Appreciating Kamalpreet’s success, Hardeepak said her historic achievement may not have been possible, without the motivation, guidance and tutelage of her coach Rakhi. He wished them good luck for future competitions. 

At the ceremony, Kamalpreet Kaur said that she feels proud to have represented India at the Olympics but she is also sad that she could win a medal. She further added that she comes from a village where women are not allowed to play but her family supported her throughout her journey. She said that this stereotypical thinking of people in villages is needed to be changed then only India can win medals at the Olympics.

Former DIG Gurdeep Singh, General Manager CN John, principal Jay Sharma, vice-principal Puja Chandpuri and school students were also present at the ceremony.
