International gold-medalist Indian discus thrower, Krishna Poonia's name was announced on Monday by the Congress from Jaipur Rural constituency. On Monday Congress had announced the names of another 9 of its candidates out of which six are from Rajasthan, two from Maharashtra and one from Gujarat. So far, Congress has announced the names of 325 candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections.

The party had fielded Mohan Joshi from Pune. Previously, Pune was represented in the Lok Sabha by the former Congress leader Suresh Kalmadi. He was a member of parliament from Pune till May 2014. Kalmadi has been alleged to be involved in corrupt practices in relation to the 2010 Commonwealth Games during his tenure as president of Indian Olympic Association and chairman of Common Wealth Games 2010.

Rahul Gandhi on Sunday had announced that he will be contesting from Uttar Pradesh Amethi and Kerala Wayanad. He is expected to file his nomination tomorrow. 

Who is Krishna Poonia?

A three-time Olympic participant, Ms Poonia won the gold medal in discus throwing in the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games. The Padma Shri awardee has been elected as the MLA in the Rajasthan state assembly for 2018-2023 term. She will be contesting against the Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore. The silver Olympic medallist Rajyavardhan Rathore is the Jaipur rural lawmaker.
