Olympic medalist and former hockey player Varinder Singh passes away

Olympian Varinder Singh passed away today at the age of 75

Olympic medalist and former Hockey player Varinder Singh passed away today. He was 75 years old. The news of his death has been shared by Jalandhar’s Surjit Hockey Society. It stated that "it was sad to inform you that Hockey Olympian Varinder Singh has expired here at Jalandhar." The player took his last breath at a private hospital in Jalandhar.

Varinder Singh was born on May 16, 1947. He had won a bronze medal at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. He was honored with the Dhyan Chand award by then President Pratibha Patil.

Sharing the news of the Olympian medalist, Jalandhar’s Surjit Hockey Society said, “All the members of the Surjit Hockey Society pray to the Almighty to give the family members courage and strength to bear this irreparable loss and grant eternal peace to the departed soul.”
