Nitish-Kumar Nitish-Kumar-PM-Face JDU-BJP-Rift-Explained

Uncertainty looms over the BJP-JDU-ruled state government ever since the friction between Bihar CM Nitish Kumar's party JDU ad BJP spiked after corruption allegations emerged against former Union Minister RCP Singh, who resigned from the party after a show cause notice was issued against him. Following the resignation, former JDU leader RCP Singh called Nitish Kumar's party a sinking ship. Interestingly, RCP Singh's closeness to BJP raised eyebrows and dissent into the JDU party. With each passing day, the JDU and BJP alliance became fragile, and finally, reports suggest that Nitish Kumar is all set to flip for the fifth time in his political career- possibly by breaking the alliance with the BJP.

Now, it has been reported that Bihar CM Nitish Kumar has been promised by the Opposition parties to be their Prime Minister's face for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha Elections. Furthermore, Nitish has also been promised that he will remain CM till 2024 with the opposition's support. Notably, leaders like Mamta Banerjee and others have been vouching for a united opposition and a single candidate for the PM's post who can take on Narendra Modi in the 2024 General Elections. It is pertinent to mention here that Nitish Kumar recently had a telephonic conversation with Congress Interim President Sonia Gandhi. Not only this, Bihar CM went to meet RJD Supremo Lalu Yadav when he was admitted to the hospital over a fractured elbow.

As per Jan Ki Baat journalist Pardip, he stated Nitish Kumar has been promised to be PM's face for the Lok Sabha Elections 2024. "Sources tell Jan Ki Baat Nitish Kumar has been promised opposition's PM face in 2024 & Bihar's CM post till 2024 if he breaks alliance with BJP," wrote Pradip on his official Twitter page Jan ki Baat.

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar to 'flip' once again? 4 Signs that show JDU-BJP alliance in trouble

Bihar JDU-BJP rift explained

The seeds of bitterness were sowed in the alliance with the 2020 Bihar Assembly election in which NDA emerged victorious in 125 seats as against the 110 seats won by the Mahagatbandhan. BJP, RJD, JDU, and Congress won 74, 75, 43, and 19 seats respectively. Chirag Paswan's LJP was accused of damaging Nitish Kumar's image and ruining his party's plan in the election- vote cutting. As BJP won more seats than JDU for the first time in a Bihar Assembly election, it was perceived that JDU's stature in the alliance diminished. JDU managed to win only 32 seats.

The friction between Nitish Kumar's party and BJP increased after corruption allegations against former Union Minister RCP Singh, who resigned from the party after a showcause notice was issued to him. After announcing his resignation from JD(U) on Sunday, Singh dubbed the party a 'sinking ship'. On the other hand, RCP Singh's perceived closeness to BJP irked the JDU, which claimed that the saffron party was planning to use him like Chirag Paswan, former LJP chief who had foiled Kumar's party's chances of emerging as the single-largest party.

Coming back to the ongoing JDU-BJP tussle, Nitish Kumar has sought time from Bihar Governor Phagu Chauhan to meet him. Nitish Kumar islikely to break his alliance with the BJP and likely to rejoin Mahagathbandhan.
