Padma Shri awardee Baba Iqbal Singh, breathed his last in Baru Sahib

Baba Iqbal Singh Ji passed away at Baru Sahib in Sirmaur district of Himachal on Saturday. He was recently admitted to a private hospital in Chandigarh due to prolong illness

Social worker and Humanitarian Baba Iqbal Singh, breathed his last at Badu Sahib. Due to bad health, he was admitted to a private hospital in Chandigarh.  On Friday itself, he was taken back to Badu Sahib, where he left for his heavenly abode.

Iqbal Singh is a socio-spiritual leader of the Sikh community. He was born on 1 May 1926 (age 96 years).  He is the Founder President of The Kalgidhar Trust, The Kalgidhar Society and Baru Sahib. He is considered to be one of the most significant Sikhs in the world. He was bestowed with the Sikh Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016. He started Akal Academy, a school on the foothills of Baru Sahib in the state.

He has contributed a lot in the education sector. Baba Iqbal Singh, the founder of Kalgidhar Trust, was awarded the Padma Shri in the field of social service and education. The President's Office had announced the conferment of Padma Shri to Sant Baba Iqbal Singh on 26 January itself.  He was yet to be given this honour and before that Sant Baba Iqbal Singh passed away.

He started the school with a few students but today the same school has a chain of many CBSE affiliated English medium schools. He also started two private universities which now have more than 70,000 rural students
