With escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, users on social media X on Friday were left shell-shocked after a tweet went viral in which Pakistan appealed for more loans from the world to overcome financial losses. The tweet was fired from the official handle of the Economic Affairs Division, Government of Pakistan. The tweet reads, "Govt of Pakistan appeals to International Partners for more loans after heavy losses inflected by enemy. Amid escalating war and stocks crash, we urge international partners to help de-escalate. Nation urged to remain steadfast." It also tagged the World Bank.
The appeal was such that even Indians did not believe and wondered whether it is a parody account of Economic Affairs Division, Government of Pakistan. However, going by reports that is quoted by newswires like ANI, PTI and various other credible organisation, it was indeed the official handle of Pakistan.
After people bombarded the viral tweet with comment, Pakistanis rushed to issue a clarification. Pakistanis in the comment section alleged that Economic Affairs Division, Government of Pakistan X handle has been hacked and the tweet asking for more loan is totally fake.
