An Indian Army jawan reportedly shot and killed two of his colleagues on Monday at Mirthal cantonment in Punjab's Pathankot district. The jawan opened fire from his service weapon at around 2.30 am on Monday morning and killed his colleagues, Havildar Gauri Shankar and Havildar Surya Kant, and escaped from the scene. 

The jawan has been identified as Lokesh, serving in the Army for four years. After the incident, he fled from the scene leaving his service weapon but was later on arrested on the same evening. 

In a police complaint, a Naik-rank Army official said that while they were asleep, they heard gunshots.

He and his colleagues immediately alerted their superiors about the situation, and the injured were transferred to a Pathankot hospital, where doctors declared them dead.

Along with the Army personnel, the police carried out a joint search operation in the morning to trace the accused, later the absconding jawan was arrested and a case of murder under relevant sections of the IPC and the Arms Act has been registered against him.
