Punjab-Farmers Security-Officials Delhi-Chalo-Movement

Adamant farmers from Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh have actually made it to the national capital under the banner of the 'Delhi Chalo' movement on late Friday after braving the scuffles with security officials, tear gas shells, and water canons. Now, these farmers will stage a protest in Delhi over three contentious farm laws enforced by the Centre in September.

Several photographs have emerged from the spot where farmers faced multiple flashpoints with police in riot gear using tear gas shells, water cannons, barricades, and barbed wires, and braving farmers stood their valiantly. Sharing one such picture, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expressed grief. In the picture,  a jawan can be seen aiming his baton at a protesting farmer.

"Our slogan was Jai Jawan Jai Kisan, but today PM Modi’s arrogance made the jawan stand against the farmer. This is very dangerous," Gandhi tweeted.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has also denounced the police action on protesting farmers and tweeted, "Look at the country’s system in the BJP government. When the billionaire friends of BJP come to Delhi, they get a red-carpet welcome. But when farmers come to Delhi, roads are being dug. It is right that anti-farmer laws are made but when farmers come to Delhi, it becomes wrong?"

It is pertinent to mention here, on Friday, the Delhi government turned down the request of Delhi Police to convert nine stadiums into temporary jails to imprison the farmers and welcomed them to the capital. Farmers have been asked to assemble at the Nirankari Samagam Ground in Burari, however, a number of farmers said they want to go either to the Ramlila ground or Jantar Mantar to stage a protest against the farm laws.

Also, it is being expected that the protest might intensify from Saturday onwards as farmers from Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand are likely to join the movement.
