Since the second wave of coronavirus has left India helpless, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is continuously attacking Modi’s government on handling pandemic. On Tuesday, Mr. Gandhi once again criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government. Meanwhile, Rahul sounded a warning as he released a white paper to help the government prepare for the third wave of the pandemic.

Slamming Prime Minister Modi Rahul Gandhi said, “90 percent of people who died in the second wave of coronavirus could have been saved. The biggest reason people lost their lives was lack of oxygen. PM's tears can't wipe families' tears... his tears can't save them, oxygen can. But he didn't take it seriously as his focus was on Bengal elections."

Rahul Gandhi also questioned the Centre’s inability to compensate families for losing their key earner to coronavirus infection. He pointed out that Centre is making Rs 4 lakh crore from hiking petrol and diesel prices. “Families who have lost breadwinners must be compensated,” he added.

Recently, the Centre had said Rs 4 lakh compensation can't be paid to all those who died due to Covid-19 as it would exhaust the disaster relief funds, and also impact the Centre and states' preparation to address future waves of COVID-19.

The released white paper is a ‘blueprint on how to react to the third wave... to provide the government with information and insight on what went wrong in handling the second wave.’ "Covid is going to be disastrous for this country in the third wave," he added.

Also clarifying his stance, Mr. Gandhi said, “We have prepared a white paper not to point fingers but show shortcomings and hope that, in the future, this will be addressed. The entire country is aware that a third wave is coming and the government must be prepared for this... that is our purpose.”

Stressing on the aggressive vaccination campaigns, he further said, “Central pillar is vaccination. We must have aggressive, 100 percent vaccination.” The second pillar is the adequate number of hospital beds and medical supplies, including oxygen and ventilators, he mentioned.

Praising the government on the pace of vaccination, Rahul said that the government did good work but has to make process. Government needs to work hard until entire population is vaccinated.

Mr. Gandhi also stressed the impact of covid on the poorer section of society. He said, “Covid is an economic and social disease too. We have given the NYAY concept...if PM doesn't like the name he can change it but the aim is to have money reach the poor people."

Lashing out at the government, the paper released also says that ‘government is hiding data on deaths...it is at least five to six times more.’
