A robber was shot dead this afternoon in a police encounter near Kairon village on the Tarn Taran-Patti road. Five of his accomplices were arrested.
Home Guard Jawan Sukhwinder Singh was too reportedly injured in the encounter and has been admitted to a nearby private hospital where doctors have declared his condition to be critical.
As per reports, on Sunday as many as seven incidents of looting of the petrol pumps were reported in the district. The gang today again equipped with firearms started a string of robberies in the afternoon and even shot a chemist at Naurangabad village.
Sources also informed that they snatched a car from a man near Dera Sahib Village after their car ran out of petrol. However, on getting information, the police chased them.
Meanwhile, to escape from the police, they entered a marriage palace where a function was on.
The police sealed the marriage palace, while the robbers on other hand opened fire at the cops.
