The former Punjab Congress president Sunil Jakhar on Tuesday took a dig at Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and current state unit head Navjot Singh Sidhu as the duo was observed paying obeisance at Kedarnath. Jakhar, inquiring the agenda behind the religious visit called the top Congress leaders “political pilgrims.’

“Political' Pilgrims. But each one trying to appease a different Deity,” tweeted the ex-Punjab unit head on Tuesday.

The tweet comes after Sidhu and Channi along with Punjab Affairs in charge Harish Chaudhary and Assembly Speaker KP Singh flew to pay obeisance at Kedarnath Temple in Uttarakhand just months ahead of polls. They also met former Punjab affairs in charge Harish Rawat at Dehradun following which, Rawat asserted “All is Well” in the state.

The religious visit took place after a dramatic day in which Sidhu and Channi were seen in a face-off. Where CM announced power tariff reduction, Sidhu accused him of “telling lies and making false promises.”

Following Sidhu’s public statements, CM Channi, giving a strong word to his opponent, refused to accept APS Deol’s resignation.

Jakhar’s tweet also seems to question the visit, likewise political enthusiasts. “Who is Punjab Congress trying to appease?”

Notable, Sunil Jakhar has emerged as strong critics of the Channi government and Navjot Sidhu in recent days. Call it rage over “not being elected as Punjab CM” or his intolerance over long-standing drama in the party, Jakhar seems to raise significant questions.

From commenting on “how congress has forgotten Indira Gandhi’s principles to a tussle between party and former CM Capt Amarinder Singh, Jakhar is clearly indicating that party needs to up its game if wants to come in power again.
