As the country suffers a shortage of medical facilities, Delhi High Court on Monday, May 17 said that leaders of political parties should not stock up on any covid related medical supplies such as anti-covid drugs, vaccines, oxygen cylinders, etc.

Political leaders have no business to hoard the medications when citizens are suffering and searching for the drugs,” said Delhi High Court.

The bench of Justice Vipin Sanghi and Jasmeet Singh directed that coronavirus treatment-related medicines should be surrendered to the Director-General of Health Services. “If their intention is to do public good, then they should surrender the same to Director General of Health Services (DGHS) who will then distribute it to government hospitals,” said Delhi HC.

The court opposed the stocks in possession of BJP MP Gautam Gambhir and questioned, “How did he get such large quantities from chemists during such shortage?”

Gautam Gambhir had distributed Fabiflu medicines and oxygen concentrators free of cost. The Delhi Police counsel has said that the stock would be seized.

Calling out an inquiry, the High Court said, ” We hope and expect Delhi Police to conduct a proper investigation and if a case is made out, we expect them to register the FIR as well. DCP seeks one time to examine the matter and file a status report.”

“We issue notice in the application. This application should also be kept in view while conducting the investigation in the matter,” the court added.
