Punjab Congress leader and former Cabinet minister Navjot Sidhu is leaving no stone unturned to sharp his words against his own government. Sidhu once again on Friday took a jibe at CM Capt Amarinder Singh for the unprecedented power outages in the state.

However, he forgot to introspect himself that he owes much to the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited. According to the reports, cricketer-turned-politician is one of the state’s biggest individual electricity dues defaulters.

As of now, Sidhu owes Rs8, 74, 784 to the PSCL for his Amritsar residence.

GS Khaira, Amritsar’s superintending engineer of PSPCL said, “In March 2021, Sidhu owed the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) Rs17,62,742. At that time, the PSPCL launched a drive against defaulters and Sidhu paid Rs10 lakh. A sum of Rs8.74 lakh is still pending.”

“Sidhu has applied for one-time settlement of the bill, raising doubts on surcharges which is under consideration,” he added.

Bursting clouds of anger against Sidhu, another senior PSPCL official at its Patiala-based headquarters said: “Before giving advice and suggestion to others, Sidhu should clear his dues. Many consumers with a lower outstanding amount faced disconnections, but due to Sidhu’s political clout, the department didn’t take action.”

PSPCL officials further said, the last date to clear the outstanding dues is July 2 and if  Sidhu  will fail to pay the bill, an action would be taken against him.

Taking note of the matter and mocking at the Congress leader, opposition leaders in the state have been sharing Sidhu’s outstanding bill on social media.
