Public holiday declared in Punjab on May 1; Schools, banks, and offices to remain closed

While Punjab is already witnessing a public holiday on April 29, 2025, the state government on Tuesday announced another public holiday on May 1. (Punjab Public Holiday May 1 2025) The Punjab Government has officially declared Thursday, May 1, 2025, as a gazetted holiday across the state in observance of Labour Day (International Workers' Day).

It means all government offices, schools, colleges, and other educational institutions will remain closed on Thursday. Public holiday on May 1 aims to honor the contributions of workers and laborers across sectors. The announcement ensures a day of rest and recognition for the working class.

Notably, Punjab had seven gazetted holidays in April, but only two have been scheduled for May. The first falls on May 1 (Labour Day), and the second is on May 30, which marks the Shaheedi Diwas of Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji, for which a holiday has also been declared by the state.

On April 29, schools and government were also closed over Parshuram Jayanti, however, banks remained open. On May 1, 2025, banks will also remain closed in the state.
