Punjab’s Bhatinda city was shaken after a five-year-old girl’s blood-soaked body was discovered on Tuesday morning. Dogs were found hovering around the dead body. Police said that the girl died as dogs might have devoured her, but the family claim that she has been murdered after rape. A case has been registered and the police have started an investigation.

Cut marks were found on many places of the girl’s body. The victim’s parents are migrant labourers who work at the AIIMS Hospital in Bhatinda. The girl was missing from Monday evening and a police complaint was lodged about her disappearance. Her body was recovered in the early hours of Tuesday and looking at her condition her family feared misconduct.

The girl’s family have accused a young man living in their neighbourhood, with whom the family argued. He must have committed the incident in the same enmity, the victim’s family alleged.

According to the police, the initial investigation suggests that the girl was beaten to death by dogs. However, the police will investigate the case based on the complaint of the victim’s family.
