As the Punjab and Haryana High Court will finally examine the inquiry reports submitted during the past couple of years in the Punjab drug haul case tomorrow, PPCC chief Navjot Singh Sidhu today took to Twitter, saying he is hopeful that the main culprit will be exposed and given exemplary punishment.

In the tweet, Sidhu said, “After a long wait of 2.5 years, STF & State Govt reports on Drug trafficking against Bikramjit Singh Majithia to be examined tomorrow by the Hon’ble High Court … Hoping the Main Culprit is exposed & given exemplary punishment. It is a matter of Justice for the Youth of Punjab!!”.

Earlier, Navjot Sidhu has questioned his own government and the Punjab Police on the action taken over the STF report on drug trafficking submitted by ADGP Hapreet Sidhu before the Court.

Sidhu then without naming anyone, in a series of tweets said: “Punishing culprits behind drug trade is Congress’s priority under 18-point agenda. What is the action taken on Majithia? While the government seeks extradition of NRIs linked to the same case. If further delayed, will bring resolution in Vidhan Sabha for making the reports public.”

Besides, the Punjab CM was also under fire by Cabinet colleagues, Sidhu and the Opposition for allegedly failing to catch any top drugs smuggler in the four-and-a-half year tenure.

They said Captain Amarinder had made a poll promise that he would take action against drugs smugglers within a month of forming the government, but it’s almost four and a half years since Congress took the command, and nothing concrete has been done so far in the drugs case.

In 2018, the Punjab and Haryana High Court had asked the chief of an anti-drug STF, set up by CM Capt Amarinder Singh to catch the “big fish” in drug trade, to file a status report on the entire matter. Thereafter, on May 23, 2018, the government filed before court opinion-cum-status report, which still awaits the light of day, in a sealed envelope.

On August 13, hearing on an application filed by advocate Navkiran Singh for advancing the date of hearing in the case, the special Bench observed that it had been recently constituted, while the various inquiry reports were submitted two to three years back and were required to be perused.

It also directed the High Court Registrar (Judicial) to produce the reports in the chambers before the next date of hearing i.e. August 27.
