Taking a tough stance on the growing problem of begging, the Punjab government has taken the first action in Amritsar. An FIR has been registered against a woman for begging in the Ranjit Avenue area of the city. According to the police, the said woman, 'Nirmala,' was begging near the vehicles at traffic signals, leading the children.

The action was taken on the basis of a written complaint received from the office of the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Amritsar. Ranjit Avenue police station in-charge Robin Hans confirmed that the case was registered after a complaint sent by the DC office. The police are now also investigating where this woman and the children present with her are from and whether they are really her children or are associated with any gang.

The 'Begging' mafia increasing in the city

This step of the state government is an indication of showing strictness against the begging mafia and fake structures operating in the urban areas of Punjab. This is the first legal action of its kind in Amritsar. But its clear message is that the government will no longer tolerate the organizations and frauds behind begging on the streets.

SHO Robin Hans said that we had received a written complaint from the DC office. The woman is begging at the traffic signals with her children in front. Considering the seriousness of the matter, an FIR has been registered, and now an investigation is going on to determine from where these children were brought and what the relation of the woman is with them.
