Punjab government offers 50% bus fare discount & reserved seats for disabled citizens; KNOW details

The government of Punjab has announced a special traveling benefit for disabled people. Accordingly, disabled people have to pay 50 percent less bus fare if they travel on government buses. 

However, to achieve the benefit, the individual has to show their disability certificate and UDID (Unique Disability Identity) card, which should be provided by the government of Punjab. It is worth noting that there are no age or gender limits for this benefit. 

The UDID card - 

According to the government of Punjab, the UDID card can be made through a competent medical officer. The applicant has to show his/ her Aadhaar card, birth certificate, and residence proof for the verification. The health department will carry out a medical examination. The Social Security, Women, and Child Development Department makes disability certificates and UDID cards.

The Punjab authority considers this card as the identity for individuals who want to enjoy the benefits offered by the government. People with certain disabilities will now be eligible for a 50 percent discount on bus fares if they have their UDID card with them. 

It is worth mentioning that the person has to carry the document during the journey to attain the benefit. 

Reserved seats for disabled people

Along with the discounts on the bus fees, disabled people will also reserve seats. The Punjab Roadways buses and PRTC buses, which are operated by the government, will be providing seats to the disabled.
