Around 49 IAS officers out of 80 from the batch of 2005 have been empanelled as Joint Secretary by the Indian government. Three of them are from Punjab - Deprava Lakra, Tanu Kashyap and Sibin C. The post of Joint Secretary is equivalent to the centre.

The process of empanelment is taken up by the Government of India after preparing a select list of officers who seem suitable to be considered for the designation to positions under the Central Staffing Scheme at the levels of Joint Secretary, Additional Secretary, and Secretary to the Government of India.
