Seven IPS officers’ of 1993 batch are likely to get promoted to the DGP rank in Punjab within this week. The names of these officers include Gurpreet Kaur Deo, Varinder Kumar (Vigilance Chief), Ishwar Singh(ADGP HRD), Dr. Jitendra Kumar Jain, Satish Kumar Asthana, Shashi Prabha Dwivedi, Rajendra Namdeo Dhoke and Arpit Shukla (ADGP Law & Order).
As per the sources, DPC of these 7 officers has got cleared in the meeting that took place in Chandigarh on 17th January 2023. The DPC of these 7 officers was cleared by Chief Secretory, Home Secretary, Acting DGP and one IAS officer. The file has now been sent to CMO for final approval.
Till now, Punjab cadre has 11 DGP rank officers out of which Samant Goel is the Raw Chief and has gone for central deputation. Apart from this, Dinkar Gupta is now the head of NIA, VK Bhawra’s central deputation is also cleared but is yet to get an appointment. Harpreet Sidhu has already gone on central deputation. Parag Jain has also gone on central deputation.
Punjab has not got a permanent DGP till now. After VK Bhawra, Gaurav Yadav has been appointed as acting DGP. The government is yet to send the final names of Punjab DGP to UPSC.
