A couple of days ago, some Punjab Police personnel on-dutyat the Punjab Vidhan Sabha talked to Navjot Singh Sidhu.

They shared with him their concern with hurts them in twoways.

The issue is about Ration Money Allowance (RMA), anallowance which is paid to all men and women in law enforcement and military ona per day basis.

Not only is there an indirect financial burden being put on theseemployees of Punjab Police, but they are also being treated unfairly ascompared to other men and women in law enforcement departments and armedforces.

Sidhu’s written letter claims that our men and women in allranks of Army, Navy, and Air Force receive Rs 234.58 per day, while Non-GazettedCombatised Central Armed Police Forces, IB, and Delhi Police Personnel receiveRs 117.29 per day.

Against this allowance rate, the Punjab Police personnelreceive less than 1.5% of the highest RMA, which is Rs 3 per day.

Sidhu, thus acting upon this request wrote to the DinkarGupta,DGP of the state police requesting the latter to consider the inequalitybeing meted out to the personnel.

Sidhu requested Gupta to reconsider the RMA, and this he didnot only as an elected representative of the people of Punjab but also as thelatter’s friend.
