
Quicklyacting on the disclosures of Gangster-cum-Drug Smuggler Gavi during hisinterrogation, the Punjab Police on Saturday, have managed to bust the entirepart of his module active in Punjab with the arrest of his five accomplices. Aclose aide of wanted gangster Jaipal, Gavi Singh @ Vijay @ Giani was arrestedfrom Sarai Kila Kharsawa district in Jharkhand on April 26, 2021 during a jointoperation by the Organised Crime Control Unit (OCCU) of Punjab Police and SASNagar Police.
Thearrested persons have been identified as Karanbir Singh, a resident of villageAkbarpura, Harmanjit Singh of village Johla, Gurjaspreet Singh of villageBathal Bhai Ke and Rawinder Iqbal Singh of Hanslawala, all villages falling indistrict Tarn Taran while Samuel alias Sam belongs to Ferozepur. All theaccused persons have been facing several criminal cases across differentdistricts of Punjab.
DirectorGeneral of Police (DGP) Punjab Dinkar Gupta said that the Police have recovered1.25 kg heroin from Gavi's rented flat located at Urban Homes-2 in Khararbesides seizing three Pistols including one .30 calibre Chinese Pistol and two.32 calibre Pistols and 23 live cartridges from his hideouts. Three vehicles,including Toyota Fortuner, Mahindra Scorpio and Hyundai Verma, which were beingused for drug smuggling have also been recovered, he added.
Hesaid that Samuel, who was staying with Gavi in Jamshedpur, had managed to flyto Delhi prior to Gavi's arrest. Samuel, a close aide of Gavi, is learnt tohave handled the distribution of heroin smuggled from Pakistan, he added.
TheDGP said that, in the ongoing investigations, Gavi had revealed that he hadsmuggled over 500 kgs of heroin, alongwith weapons from Pakistan and suppliedinto Punjab, Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir, over the last two and half years.
Gavihas shared that there was a thriving smuggling infrastructure on the Indo-Pakborder many Pakistan based smugglers were actively involved in smuggling andinduction of weapons and drugs into India. Gavi is also learnt to have made alarge number of financial transactions with individuals and entities based inIndia, Pakistan and Afghanistan through the havala route as well as throughimport/export companies based in New Delhi, which would require a deeper probe.
“Gavialso admitted having acquired a forged Indian Passport from a travel agent onfake particulars and was planning to settle in Portugal,” said DGP DinkarGupta.
TheDGP said that bank accounts and properties of Gavi have been identified andshared with concerned agencies for further action. Other associates of GangsterGavi have also been identified and Punjab Police has launched a manhunt to naball the accused persons in this case, he added.
