In a major development, Punjab Police, acting on intelligence from Counter-Intelligence Punjab, arrested a Tarn Taran resident accused of spying for Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). The accused, identified as Gagandeep Singh alias Gagan, hailing from Mohalla Rodupur, Gali Nazar Singh Wali, Tarn Taran, has been taken into custody allegedly for leaking sensitive military information.

How did the arrest happen?

Acting quickly on information from Counter-Intelligence Punjab, Tarn Taran Police conducted a joint operation and arrested Gagandeep Singh. The arrest comes as part of a larger crackdown on espionage activities in India following recent tensions between India and Pakistan.

According to initial investigations, Gagandeep Singh had been in contact with Pakistan-based Khalistani supporter Gopal Singh Chawla for the past five years. Through Chawla, he was introduced to Pakistani Intelligence Operatives (PIOs), from whom he received payments via Indian financial channels. He was allegedly involved in transmitting strategic and classified details regarding Indian Army deployments and movements, particularly during Operation Sindhoor.

Police recovered a mobile phone from the accused, which contained highly sensitive data and contact details of over 20 ISI-linked operatives. A case under the Official Secrets Act has been registered at City Police Station, Tarn Taran, and a full-scale investigation, including financial and technical forensics, is underway.

Police recovered a mobile phone from Gagandeep Singh. The phone contained secret information and details of over 20 ISI contacts. Police are now conducting a thorough financial and technical investigation to find out how big this spy network is and if more people are involved.

Legal action and police statement 

An FIR has been registered under the Official Secrets Act at Police Station City, Tarn Taran. The investigation is ongoing. Punjab Police have assured that they are fully committed to protecting the country’s sovereignty and integrity. They have promised strict action against anyone involved in anti-national activities.
