
Continuing its drive to break the nexusof illegal weapons smuggling from Madhya Pradesh (MP), Punjab Police onWednesday busted another interstate module involved in manufacturing and supplyof illegal weapons across the state with the arrest of its two members from MP.
Director-General of Police (DGP) DinkarGupta said that, in an interstate operation, a team of State CounterIntelligence, Amritsar has arrested Jeevan (19), a resident of village JamliGaytri Dham in Barwani district MP and Vijay Thakur (25) of Umrypani in BarwaniMP from the area of village Sendhwan in Barwani MP and recovered 39 Pistols (.32 bore) along with magazines from their possession.
The development came just four daysafter the Kapurthala Police busted an illicit weapon supply network with the arrest of its main supplier from Barwani in MP. Notably, this is the fourthsuch MP-based illegal weapon manufacturing and supply module busted by thePunjab Police within the last 8 months. Prior to Kapurthala, Amritsar Rural Policehad unearthed two such modules, including one illicit Small Arms Manufacturingunit in MP with the arrest of weapon smugglers, who were supplying weapons togangsters, criminals, and radicals in Punjab.
The DGP, while raising the concern thatthe areas of district Khargone, Barwani, and Burhanpur of MP have been emergingas a big-time base for manufacturing and supply of high-quality .30 bore and.32 bore to gangsters and criminals of the country, said that apart fromunearthing illicit weapon manufacturing units in MP, different units of PunjabPolice had earlier recovered huge caches of MP manufactured illegal weaponsfrom the state. As per the information, the Punjab Police have recovered asmany as 122 MP-manufactured illegal weapons since September 2020 till date.
Sharing details, DGP Dinkar Gupta saidthat the Counter Intelligence Amritsar had arrested two persons identified asHira Singh and Harmandeep Singh, both residents of Tarn Taran after recoveringthree country-made pistols and ammunition from their possession on June 12,2021 and during interrogation they revealed that they procured these weaponsfrom Madhya Pradesh.
DGP Dinkar Gupta said that followingthese inputs, a special team led by Inspector Inderdeep Singh was sent to MP tobust the entire module. He said that preliminary investigations revealed thatthese weapons were meant to be supplied to various criminal gangs and otheranti-national elements in Punjab.
Meanwhile, FIR No. 15 dated12.06.2021 had been registered under section 25 Arms Act at Police StationState Special Operation Cell, Amritsar.
