The water dispute between Punjab and Haryana has intensified. As per sources, the Punjab Police visited and surrounded the control station of the Nangal Dam. The source informed that strict restrictions have been imposed, and no individual is being allowed near the dam premises. Reacting to the water dispute, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann reaffirmed his firm stance, stating, "Punjab’s water is for Punjabis, and under no circumstances will we allow it to be taken elsewhere."
In the meantime, after Water Regulation Director of the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB), the Secretary has also been changed. Secretary Surinder Singh Mittal was appointed to the board from the Haryana quota. Now the charge of the Secretary has been given to Balveer Singh of the Punjab quota.
Earlier, Bhakra Dam's Director (Water Regulation) Engineer Akashdeep Singh, appointed to the board from the Punjab quota, was removed.
While sources suggest that the Punjab Police cordoned off the Nangal Dam Station area, DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar of Ropar Range of Punjab Police, who arrived at the dam with force, said that he had come only to review the security. Police have nothing to do with the water issue.
