Waris Punjab De chief and the staunch supporter of Khalistan Amritpal Singh has been detained by the Punjab Police at his ancestral village in Moga to not let the former attend a Nagar Kirtan organized in the city of Jalandhar.

Citing the concern over the prevailing law and order status in the city, the Punjab Police took the action. The move came right a day after Hindu leader Sudhir Suri was shot dead in broad daylight in Amritsar while he was staging a dharna with his fellow supporters.

Meanwhile, the Sikh outfits in Jalandhar have raised a strong concern over not letting Amritpal Singh attend the religious procession in the city. Sikh leaders have gone on to say that there will be no issue with him attending the Nagar Kirtan here in the city, however, if he is not allowed to attend the same, there is a chance of depleting law and order in the city and police will be held responsible for it.

While on the other hand, Amritpal Singh termed his detention as an attack on Sikh’s right to practice their religious rights while addressing the media in his Moga-based village. “It is an absolute dismaying state of slavery for the Sikhs that we can not attend the procession of our Gurus,” he added further.
