Punjab Police major crackdown against drugs, heroin worth Rs 40cr seized, three held

As per the directions of Dinkar Gupta, DGP Punjab, a team under the guidance of Navjot Singh Mahal, SSP Hoshiarpur, got success in arresting an international and interstate gang of smugglers.

The Punjab Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested three people after 8 Kg Heroin, Rs 20 lakh drug money, 5 Kg Poppy Husk, a fortuner car and a Scorpio were recovered from their possession in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur district.

Divulging details to the media, Navjot Singh Mahal, SSP Hoshiarpur said that on April 2, a special nakabandi was done by team led by Tushar Kumar Gupta IPS, ASP Sub division Garhshankar and Prem Singh, DSP NDPS Hoshiarpur at Mahilpur to Phagwara road near Village Thuana.

During nakabandi the team got a secret information that a person named Sukhwinder singh alias Sukhi, a resident of Channanwal, Barnala along with Manpreet Singh alias Kala and Jagdeep Singh alias Sony, were bringing a huge amount of Heroin from J&K in their white Fortuner car No. HR 26 CD-0072.

After conducting  thorough search of the car  the police team recovered eight  packets containing 8kg Herion from a secret box which was designed along the radiator and placed beneath the front bonnet of the car.

It is worth mentioning that the Sukhwinder Singh already had many FIRs registered against him of which two are under U/S UAPA Act registered at Delhi and Ropar.

A huge amount of RDX was recovered from his possession. In year 2007, 6 Kg Heroin and 4 Pistols were recovered from him at Sidhwa Bet District Jagraon.

He is companion of Terrorist Daya Singh Lahoriya. Sukhwinder Singh came out of the jail on bail in year 2019 and he often visit Pakistan where he developed the connections with drug smugglers who supplies heroin to him  and he often brings Herion to India from Pakistan.

During the investigation it was known that Sukhwinder Singh carries out this smuggling act with his companion Amrik Singh.

“Hoshiarpur Police has done a commendable job by bursting the gang”, said SSP Navjot Mahal, adding that a FIR has been registered against the accused under U/S 21(C) / 61-85 NDPS Act at Police Station Mahilpur. Accused persons are on Police remand now so that more information could be derived to break this chain.
