Punjab: Rising cases and death related to dengue in Kalka forces civic bodies into action, releases measures to check the spread

The increasing number of dengue cases in Pinjore and Kalka in Panchkula besides the death of a sanitary inspector of the Kalka civic body on September 10th has put the District Health Department, Panchkula on their toes.

The administration is actively taking measures on the development of the case that includes marking the sites that are suitable for mosquito breeding in order to check the outbreak.

The civic body has deployed teams to conduct home-to-home checking, and monitoring of public places wherever there are issues associated with water logging and sanitation.

As per the official reported figure, Kalka has reported 110 dengue cases, whereas 87 in Pinjore.

Haryana assembly speaker Gian Chand Gupta on Sunday held a meeting in Pinjore-based Urban Poly Clinic, which was attended by senior officials from medical and administrative units.

Gupta out rightly made the clear-cut mention of the requirements for fogging machines in the area and an increase in the total number of beds in the polyclinic. During the occasion, Gupta also inaugurated the Dengue Elisa Reader.

While officiating the entire course of the meet he also pointed out that the locals were complaining about the death toll based on the official figure being underreported as many cases go unchecked.

Out of 153 samples collected a total of 23 tested positive in the Panchkula district on Sunday. “We have close to 26 teams in the field today and have issued 113 notices to those flouting rules.

It is important that there is community participation in the prevention of dengue. There has also been a rise in cases of fever and cold, because of changing weather, but people should not ignore the symptoms and see a doctor immediately so that there are no complications or a fall in platelets,” said Dr Mankeerat Murara, Nodal Officer, Civil Surgeon, Panchkula.

Kalka MLA Pardeep Chaudhary acknowledged the increasing cases of dengue in the adjoining cities of Kalka and Pinjore, while the residents in the adjoining cities have blamed the health department over the deteriorating state in the area.

The officials have established a round-the-clock contact mechanism through a dengue control room to address public queries, monitor the proceedings on the matter, and make people aware of the latest development on the matter.

While the UT of Chandigarh has reported about 100 cases of dengue with an average of seven cases every day for the past 10 days.

In Chandigarh, there have been about 100 reported cases of dengue, with an average of seven a day in the last 10 days, “For more than three months, our teams have been deputed to high-density areas to check for collection of stagnant water, breeding of mosquitoes, and information dissemination, with notices issued regularly,” said Dr. Suman Singh, Director of Health Services.

The same is the case with the city of Mohali which has reported a total of 195 cases fortunately with zero casualties.

The Civil Surgeon Dr. Adarsh Pal Kaur informed the media during a briefing on the matter that the health department carried out an extensive awareness drive in order to check the spread.
