Punjab's scorching heat turns deadly, man dies at Gurdaspur Railway Station as temperature hits 50°C

Punjab has been witnessing intense heat for the past few days. However, on June 11, multiple districts of Punjab witnessed even more heat as the temperature touched the record-breaking number of 50°C.  Punjab Summer turned deadly on Wednesday, a 62-year-old man, Vijay Kumar, lost his life, allegedly due to a heat-induced heart attack at Gurdaspur Railway Station. 

As per the information received, Vijay Kumar was a painter by profession and had been working in Himachal Pradesh. He was returning home and had stopped to rest at the Gurdaspur Railway Station when he suddenly collapsed. Eyewitnesses reported that Kumar was visibly exhausted and appeared to be suffering from heat-related stress. Initial findings suggest that the extreme heat may have triggered a heart attack.

The Railway Police arrived promptly and began an investigation. The deceased’s body was handed over to the family after legal formalities.

Punjab witnessing intense heat on June 11

Sweltering heat has engulfed North India, including Punjab, as states have been witnessing intense summer for the past few days. As per IMD Chandigarh, the highest temperature of 47.6°C was recorded in Bathinda yesterday, which was five degrees Celsius above normal. The temperature of most of the cities of the state remained above 43°C. Today, a heat wave alert has been issued in 18 districts. At the same time, 45°C was recorded in Jalandhar. Now, it seems like people of Jalandhar will have to endure even more heat in the district. 

As per AccuWeather, the maximum temperature in Jalandhar on Wednesday, i.e., June 11, is expected to touch 49°C. While writing, the weather forecast website stated that Jalandhar is witnessing 46°C, but the weather feels like 48°C. Around 4 pm on June 11, Hoshiarpur registered 50°C. As per AccuWeather, Gurdaspur also registered 50°C
