In a shocking development, Dr. Anil Jit Singh Kamboj, father of popular Punjabi actress Tania, was shot multiple times inside his clinic in Kot Ise Khan, a town in Punjab's Moga district, on Friday afternoon. Two unidentified men entered his Harbans Nursing Home, located at the main chowk of the town, and opened indiscriminate fire before fleeing the scene.
As per information received, two unidentified men arrived on foot. One of them posed as a patient and stated that he would like get treated by Dr. Anil Jit Singh Kamboj for a skin injection in his leg. The moment Dr. Anil Jit Singh Kamboj tried to check up the patient, he fired on him.
Dr. Kamboj was hit by two bullets, one to the side of the chest and another that pierced through his abdomen. He was immediately rushed to Moga Medicity, a private hospital, where he remains on ventilator support in critical condition.
As per initial information received, Dr. Kamboj had reportedly received a ransom call around 1.5 to 2 years ago, and was subsequently assigned a police gunman for his protection. However, the gunman was withdrawn about five to six months ago. Police have registered a case at Kot Ise Khan police station, and investigations are underway.
While the identity of the attackers remains unknown, their method suggests a planned hit. Police are examining possible links to extortion gangs or old threats. Police officials have taken the CCTV footage into their custody and are currently investigating the case.
