DSP Gurvinder Singh from Rajpura said that at around 11 am on Saturday morning the police station at Banur was informed that Gippy Grewal was shooting his upcoming film in village Karala in Banur. 100 people were gathered during the shoot. On this information, as soon as SHO of Police Station Banur, SI Balwinder Singh arrived with his team on the spot, a stampede ensued.
Many people ran away from the spot. The police started questioning Punjabi singer and actor Gippy Grewal, about the details of people present in the shoot and asked him to show the documents of approval to conduct the shooting. To this, the actor said the documents are yet not approved but they have applied for permission. He also claimed that today is the last day of their shoot.
After this, seven members from the crew, including Gippy Grewal were arrested. A case has been registered against them under 188 IPC, Section 51 Disaster Management Act 2005 and Section 3 Epidemic Diseases Act 1897 in Police Station, Banur. The DSP said that ‘it is a crime to gather so many people in violation of the Covid Guidelines’. Even if Gippy had the approval of the shooting from above, it was not effective in the lockdown. He said that action would also be taken against the owner of the place which was being used for the shooting.
Earlier on 28 April, actor Jimmy Shergill was also arrested in Ludhiana on charges of violation of Corona Guideline. During the shooting, social distancing, as well as other rules of Covid, have fiercely torn apart. The police arrested Jimmy Shergill as well as his accomplices. However, all of them were later released on bail by the police.
