One of the most controversial filmmakers of Bollywood Ram Gopal Varma is known for his movies based on the life of gangsters and the underworld. His movies like Contract, Satya, Department, and more have earned a lot of praise. However, Varma's number of movies on Gangsters often lead him to trouble. People often accuse the film-maker of glorifying the gangsters and making money out of it.

Finally, Ram Gopal Varma has spoken on this and accepted the fact that he is attracted to the dark side of human beings. Varma is coming up with yet another film from the same genre and it is about the most wanted gangster Dawood Ibrahim and his D Company.

In an interview with Spotboye, Varma spoke fluently on his affection with the Gangsters related movies. On being asked why he does not choose to make movies on characters like Mahatma Gandhi or Mother Teresa, Varma said, "Because I owe my living to Dawood Ibrahim. You are right, I made a career out of making gangster films. Seriously speaking I have always been attracted to the dark side of human beings."

Talking about his upcoming movie on Dawood and D Company he said, "My D Company sources are straight insiders. I  am capturing the story through insiders’ perspectives. My 2002 film Company was based on the fall-out between Dawood Ibrahim and Chhota Rajan. That’s very  much a part of this series but the detailing here will be very different because most of my underworld knowledge on Dawood’s  dealings came to me very recently."
