The bail plea of Jalandhar Central MLA Raman Arora on Friday was rejected by the court of Jaswinder Singh, Additional Sessions Judge. Jalandhar Central MLA Raman Arora was arrested at his residence by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau on corruption charges. Ever since then, he has been behind bars. Arora had applied for bail in the court; however, multiple aggrieved individuals submitted a written report opposing the Jalandhar Central MLA's bail.
One of the aggrieved persons in the case is Dr. Mukesh Joshi, owner of Joshi Hospital in Jalandhar. Dr. Mukesh Joshi informed True Scoop that he is among the many victims in the case who opposed the bail of Jalandhar Central MLA Raman Arora.
Dr. Mukesh Joshi, in his submission, stated that Raman Arora, as an MLA, misused his position to allegedly obtain a total of Rs. 10 lakhs through corrupt means. The arguments stated that Arora is the "prime accused" and not only cheated and induced Dr. Joshi to deliver the amount but also threatened him with "dire consequences" if his dictates were not obeyed.
'Raman Arora may threaten prosecution witnesses if granted bail'
Dr. Mukesh further outlined if granted bail, Arora would threaten prosecution witnesses and hinder the smooth conduct of the trial. It was also alleged that Arora is already issuing threats through various channels.
Raman Arora's medical update
The affidavit further mentions that Raman Arora's bail application also cited medical grounds, specifically gallbladder stone and benign hypertrophy prostrate.
However, Dr. Joshi's arguments stated that these pleas are "misconceived" and merely an attempt to secure bail on false pretexts. The submission stated that Arora was "very active" before his arrest and showed no medical discomfort.
Furthermore, it was argued that both conditions are pre-existing, asymptomatic (without pain, fever, infection, jaundice, or urinary obstruction), and not life-threatening. Blood reports of Arora were cited as normal, indicating no aggravated problem. The arguments also mentioned that MRCP (MRI of common bile duct and pancreatic duct) was only for investigation and showed normal liver function, with all vitals within normal limits and Arora being hemodynamically stable.
It was also pointed out that proper medical treatment is available in jail, and Arora should not benefit from his position as an MLA.
'MLA Raman Arora registered false FIR'
Dr. Joshi further accused Raman Arora of using corrupt means to register a false FIR (No. 64 dated April 28, 2022, under Sections 447, 427 IPC read with Section 21 of the Mines and Mineral Act) against him, his wife Dr. Neelam Joshi, and his son Anuj Joshi.
The arguments detailed how investigations by senior police officials and the Deputy Commissioner of Jalandhar had recommended the dismissal of this complaint against Dr. Mukesh Joshi.
Despite this, Arora allegedly put pressure on police officials to implicate the complainant without a legal opinion, aiming to "extract money." It was also alleged that Arora held press conferences and circulated news in print and social media to harass and pressurize the complainant.
