Rape victim, 16, beaten, tied with accused, paraded in MP, case registered against 6

After a 21-year-old man allegedly raped a 16-year-old girl, at least five villagers paraded both the accused and the rape victim in public by tying them up.

A shocking incident has come to light in the tribal-dominated Alirajpur district of Madhya Pradesh, about 400 km from the state capital Bhopal, where a minor girl, who is a rape victim, was paraded with the accused after being beaten up by a mob. The video of the whole incident has gone viral on social media which has appalled people. The video shows the victim and the attacker are tied with ropes as people chant slogans. Six people, including the accused, have been arrested, police said, after the clip triggered shock and outrage. Two FIRs have been registered in this case, one against the family of the girl and the villagers while the second one against the accused.

Reports said the rape survivor's family members were among those who forced her to walk with her attacker to shame her. 

According to the information received, the 16-year-old rape victim and 23-year-old accused allegedly were in love with each other. The clip shows the young girl being paraded along with the accused as some men walking around them chant- "Bharat Mata Ki Jai (Long Live Mother India)". They were first beaten up and paraded after. 

The girl was rescued by the cops when she was being paraded. Police officer Dilip Singh Bilwal said two cases have been filed. "One of the cases was filed against the 21-year-old man who is accused of rape. Another FIR (first information report) was filed against family members of the girl and villagers for parading her in the village and beating her," he added.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Bittu Sehgal said that all the six accused in the case were arrested on Sunday. The accused have been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

In the case against family members of the survivors, sections 294 (Obscene act in public places), 355 (Assault or criminal force with intent to dishonour person), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 342 (wrongful confinement) and other sections of the IPC have been registered, police said.
