The Delhi government on Monday said that it is ready to impose a full lockdown in the city to curb the pollution-related problems, as the apex body asked the government to share the emergency plan to control the pollution.

As the Supreme Court resumed the hearing on Monday, the judges said that the pollution in New Delhi is a “crisis situation”. During the hearing, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has shared an affidavit that said that the government is ready to impose lockdown in the city and it would be beneficial if other neighbouring states would do the same.

“The Delhi government is ready to take steps like complete lockdown to control local emissions. However, such a step would be meaningful if it is implemented across the NCR areas in neighbouring states. Given Delhi's compact size, a lockdown would have limited impact on the air quality regime,” said the affidavit.

It further read, “We are ready to consider this step if the same is mandated for the entire NCR areas by the Government of India or by the Commission for Air Quality Management in National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas”.

Delhi government further said that online classes would be taken for the safety of the students and employees would be urged to Work From Home. Constructions sites would be also shut for about three days.

On Sunday, the Haryana government also ordered the closure of all schools – private and government – in four districts, Gurugram, Faridabad, Jhajjar and Sonipat, till November 17. According to the order, both government and private offices have been advised to work from home. Besides, there is a complete ban on the operation of stone crushers and hot mix plants used in construction activities.
