It is pertinent to mention here that although Alice, Darling is not a true story, Hollywood actress Anna Kendrick revealed that she did this movie as she was also a victim of an abusive relationship in reality. Anna Kendrick was quoted by a Hollywood news portal saying, "One of the actresses in it said to me the first day of filming that she was really excited to see my performance because the performance was sort of the evidence [of the abuse]. And I found that so powerful because she was talking about the movie and the performance, but it really resonated for me too, that I know myself and I am the evidence. I don't need to catalog what he said on this day and how that went down. I know what my experience was, and I'm the evidence, and that's enough."
Anna revealed more about her abusive relationship while talking LA Times. She clarified that although her ex-boyfriend never hit her physically she was indeed afraid that he will one day. "Well, he never hit me, and I’m not really afraid that he’s going to hit me. How do I discern between normal conflict and abuse? Why is my body in so much fear all of the time? Why do I wake up feeling like he’s in bed next to me and wondering, ‘OK, do I have 30 seconds before I start performing or … ?’” said Anna Kendrick.
