In yet another heinous incident, a 50-year-old woman was thrashed and dragged on the road by some family members in Gujarat's Dahod district. The video of the incident also went viral after which police acted and arrested four people.

Reportedly, the incident took place on Monday, August 16, after which a team of district police officers and women's protection team arrived on the scene and helped the victim. The woman identified as Mali Valvai filed a complaint after which police arrested four people on August 17.

The 50-year-old Mali Valvai is a resident of Sagdapada village of Fatepur taluka. In her complaint, the woman mentioned that “she was alone at home Monday evening since her husband had gone to visit her maternal house in Hirola village. The couple has six sons who live in other areas. Mali claimed she was having dinner in the courtyard when the accused barged into the compound and assaulted her for allegedly “interacting with a group of women across the street, despite knowing that the families were at odds."

The arrested accused are Dita Sakuda Valvai, her husband's younger brother, and three nephews, Pankaj Chhagan Valvai, Paru Maka Valvai, and Raman Jeta Valvai.
The video of the incident that went viral showed a man hitting a woman lying on the roadside with a stick multiple times while some men and women were watching from a distance. Then the man drags the woman to the opposite side of the road and abandons her near a cattle shed after a while.

Dahod police initiated an investigation after seeing the video clip on social media said Dahod SP Hitesh Joysar. Following treatment, the victim was released from the hospital.

Dahod police have undertaken a special awareness campaign in rural areas after similar instances occurred in the past.

According to Mr Joysar, police have placed hoardings in 100 locations as part of an awareness campaign to prevent violence against women, and theatre artists have been enlisted to write and perform plays to raise awareness among tribals.
