Relief to former Congress minister Gilzian in forest scam case; stay on arrest extended by 2 weeks

The stay on Sangat Singh Gilzian's arrest has been extended for two weeks

Former Congress minister Sangat Singh Giljian has got relief. The stay on his arrest has been extended for two weeks. On Monday, the Punjab and Haryana High Court heard the case and issued this order. In the last hearing, the High Court had stayed the arrest till July 25, seeking a status report of the case from the government. 

On the same day, the High Court granted the former minister temporary relief. In today's hearing, the government asked for time to file a reply after which the High Court has asked to reply in 2 weeks.

Punjab Vigilance Bureau has registered a case in Mohali in the forest scam during the Congress government. Former minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot has been arrested in this case. As soon as the name of Gilzian in the case came to light, Giljian went underground. After which he filed a petition in the High Court.

According to the case filed on behalf of the Vigilance Bureau, Gilzian was the Forest Minister when the tree guards were bought. In which more than 6 crores have been treated unfairly. Following the revelations made during the forest officers' interrogation, Gilzian was named in the case.
