Remembering Iron Lady of India - Sushma Swaraj on her death anniversary

On Friday, the nation remembered the youngest ever cabinet minister Sushma Swaraj on her second death anniversary.

Sushma Swaraj, the youngest cabinet minister, took her last breath on August 6, 2019, at the age of 67, due to cardiac arrest. Today the nation is observing her second death anniversary and many politicians poured tributes to the former External affair minister and remembered her rich contribution to India’s diplomacy. 

Sushma Swaraj was one of the powerful leaders of the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) and served as External Minister during the first tenure of the Modi government. She immensely contributed towards party growth and never stepped back from taking challenges or odd paths.

As the external affairs minister, she has saved many Indians, who were trapped in the foreign land, due to unforeseen circumstances.

  • Ms Swaraj was one of the most followed politicians on Twitter globally and was known for her witty tweets.  Here are some of the examples: 

1.) Once she helped a person who was brutally trolled because of his poor English, the man has asked Ms Sushma to help his friend in Malaysia to return to India. Then she not only ensured that his friend would return to India but also saved the man from trolls. 

She wrote, “There is no problem. After becoming Foreign Minister, I have learned to follow English of all accents and grammar.”

2.) A man tagged Sushma Swaraj and complained about his car. To this, she wittily replied, “I am so sorry. Please take your car to a workshop.”

3.) Once a girl requested Sushma Swaraj and said that her in-laws had to postpone the wedding as she has not received the visa. Replying to this, Sushma Swaraj tweeted, “Oh !…………… I can help your Sasuraal Walas with Indian Visa so that they don’t have to postpone the wedding any further.”

  • Sushma Swaraj started as an advocate in the Supreme Court and started her career as a young politician in the 1970s. 
  • Sushma Swaraj was titled “Supermom of India” from Washington Post as she has saved many people from other nations and vice versa. 
  • In 1996, she was information and broadcasting minister during the 13-day government of Atal Bihari Vajpayee and in 1998 she got the Cabinet portfolio after he led the government again.
