Bollywood actor Rhea Chakraborty's brother Showik after 3 months has been granted bail by the special court in Mumbai in a drug case related to Sushan Singh Rajput’s death.

The 24-year old was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on September 4, after multiple charges were filed against him under anti-narcotics law.

Chakraborty’s first bail was denied by Bombay High Court. The Mumbai court cited a recent Supreme Court judgment which said that statements or confessions before an NCB officer are not admissible evidence.

Mr Chakraborty in the first week of November had approached the court for bail.

There is no enough evidence to show that Showik is part of a chain of drug dealers engaged in the trafficking of banned substances, observed the court.

Rhea Chakraborty who granted bail after one month of her arrest was accused of being "an active member of a drugs syndicate" and the anti-drug agency alleged that both the sister-brother used to facilitate drug deliveries and payment through credit cards and cash for use by Mr Rajput, her boyfriend.

Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in his Mumbai residence in June 2020 which was initially investigated as a suicide.

But the late actor's family accused Ms Rhea of mentally harassing and taking money from him and after weeks of political interference, the case was given to the CBI.
