Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal on Friday denounced Punjab CM Capt Amarinder Singh’s move of giving government jobs to sons of two party MLAs.

Mr Badal has alleged that CM took this decision to safeguard his chair and image ahead of Punjab Assembly Elections 2022.

“All such illegal appointments will be quashed once SAD with its latest ally BSP will come into power in the State”, assured Badal.

Criticizing the state government, the SAD President further said it was shocking that while the poor and meritorious were awaiting jobs under the “ghar ghar rozgar yojana” scheme of the Punjab Congress, the latter had changed the scheme to “Kewal Congress Ghar Rozgar”.

However this has not been done for the first time in the state as earlier former chief minister Beant Singh’s grandson was appointed as a DSP on fake compassionate grounds.

“Now, again false compassionate grounds have been created to give jobs to the sons of Congress legislators.”

As a special case, the Cabinet approved to appoint Arjun Pratap Singh Bajwa as Inspector (Group B) in Punjab Police. The applicant is the grandson of ex-Punjab Minister Satnam Singh Bajwa, who laid his life in 1987 for the sake of peace and harmony in the State. He has been given an appointment by allowing one-time waiver/relaxation in the relevant rules without making it a precedent.

In another decision, the Cabinet also gave the nod to the appointment of Bhisham Pandey, the grandson of Joginder Pal Pandey who was gunned down by terrorists in 1987, as Naib Tehsildar (Group-B) in the Revenue Department. His appointment is also treated as a special case, by giving one-time relaxation in the policy of compassionate appointments, 2002. However, it will not be treated as a precedent.

Noting the sacrifice of their families, the Chief Minister said children/grandchildren of such people would continue to be considered by his government for compensatory appointment on a case to case basis.
