A 34-year old woman from Rajasthan's Barmer jumped into a burning funeral pyre as she was Saddened By Her Father's death due to COVID-19. Even though she was immediately rescued from the fire, the woman sustained severe burns all over her body. Upon hospitalization it was discovered that she had over 70% burns, the police said. She is currently being treated at a hospital in Jodhpur after being initially treated at a nearby hospital in Barmer.

The police said that the funeral of Damodardas Sharda (73) was being held today in the city who had passed away due to COVID-19. While the cremation was under process, Chandra, the youngest daughter, suddenly leapt into the fire. The people present on site immediately pulled her out of the fire.

"Damodardas Sharda had three daughters. His wife passed away some time back. The youngest of the sisters jumped on the funeral pyre," PTI quoted Prem Prakash, station house officer at the Kotwali police station, as saying. The police officer said the youngest daughter had insisted on going to the crematorium for the last rites after she learnt that her father, who was admitted to the district hospital last Sunday, had passed away.
