Hyderabad-Accused-Encounter Saina-Nehwal Jwala-Gutta

Even as the killings of the accused in the Hyderabad rape and murder case has left social media divided, India's sports stars reacted to the incident on Friday. All 4 accused in the rape and murder case involving a veterinarian in Hyderabad were killed early morning in an exchange of fire with police on Friday, police have said.

London Olympic bronze medallist Saina Nehwal took to social media and lauded Hyderabad Police after the accused were killed on Friday morning.

"Great work #hyderabadpolice ..we salute u," the Indian badminton star wrote.

Former Union Sports Minister and Athens Olympic bronze medalist, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore congratulated Hyderabad Police.

"I congratulate the hyderabad police and the leadership that allows the police to act like the police. Let all know this is the country where good will always prevail over evil (Disclaimer for holier than thou- police acted swiftly in self defence) (sic)," Rathore wrote.

On the other hand, badminton star Jwala Gutta took to Twitter and wondered if such acts would stop rape from happening in the future.

"Will this stop the future rapists?? And an important question Will every rapist be treated the same way...irrespective of their social standing?! (sic)," Jwala wrote.

As part of the investigation, the accused were taken to the site of offence for the reconstruction of the crime scene on Friday morning. The accused, according to a senior police officer, tried to snatch weapons from the police and fire at the police before trying to escape.

"They (accused) snatched weapons from police and fired on police and tried to escape... police fired in retaliation in which the four accused died," a senior police official told PTI. Two policemen were also injured, he said.

The four accused were shot dead on NH-44 near Hyderabad -- the same highway where the charred body of 26-year-old veterinarian was found.
