Sainik schools across country now open for girls as well, says PM Modi

Prime Minister Modi said, “The government has decided that all the Sainik Schools in the country will also be opened for the daughters of the country,” during his address to nation on 75th Independence Day.

Today at Red Fort, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that all Sainik Schools would admit the girls and new schools would be opened, especially for girls. 

Sainik Schools, which used to admit only boys would now allow girls to take admission. This decision is taken as Sainik Schools make the path toward armed force a bit easy. Till March, there are about 33 Sainik Schools in the country. 

PM Narendra Modi during his speech announced as a part of the pitch for gender equality. He said, “India’s daughters are eager to take their place. I used to get messages from lakhs of daughters that they also want to study in Sainik School, therefore; the government has decided to open the doors of Sainik Schools for them too.”

PM Modi said that the government has made this decision after the success of a pilot project conducted in the Sainik School, Mizoram. 

PM said, “Two-and-a-half years ago, the experiment of admitting girls students was done for the first time in a Sainik School in Mizoram. Now, the government has decided that all the Sainik Schools in the country will also be opened for our daughters.”

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, during his customary address on August 15 said, “Ministry of Defence has decided to set up 100 new Sainik Schools to prepare future generations of versatile brave warriors. All these schools will be co-ed which also benefit the daughters of our country and increase their scholarly participation in the defense of the nation.”

Sainik Schools are run by the Sainik School Group, which is administered under the Ministry of Defence. The aim behind the Sainik School is to prepare children to participate in the armed forces at an early age.
