Meeting between farmers and the Supreme court-appointed panel which was scheduled to happen today has been rescheduled to January 29 due to traffic restrictions after the tractor parade violence that broke out in Delhi on Tuesday.

The first meeting was held with farmers Associations from 8 states on January 21 and the panel had also invited several other farmers/stakeholder associations for a meeting today.

The four-member committee was appointed by CJI AS Bobde to carry negotiation between the government and the farmers’ unions consisting of Agriculture experts and activists, Bhupinder Singh Mann, Ashok Gulati, former Chairman of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices, Pramod Kumar Joshi, Director Agriculture Food Policy Research Institute, and Anil Ghanwat of the Shetkari Sangathan Maharashtra.

But later, Mr Mann had recused himself from the panel and said he doesn’t want to be a part of the panel while other members have asserted that they do not belong to any political party or government body and will be fair in their proceedings. The committee members said that their objective is to ensure that farmers get all the benefits they deserve and everyone’s opinion will be considered and will be presented before the apex court.

"Those who want to come and meet us physically can come here. Others can join via video conferencing," said the Committee.

A web portal is also being created by the government for all stakeholders who are unable to come to Delhi to give their suggestions and opinions on the farm laws.
