Ex-Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh’s petition seeking a probe into the accusations levelled by him against Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh will be heard by the Supreme Court on Wednesday. The Mumbai former cop has also urged the court to direct the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe the report submitted by Rashmi Shukla, which alleged wrongdoings in transfers and postings. Singh has also requested the collection of CCTV footage of Anil Deshmukh's residence in Mumbai to verify the charges he has levelled.

Days after Param Bir Singh was transferred from his post, the top cop had written a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and accused that Anil Deshmukh had met his subordinates, including arrested cop Sachin Vaze, in mid-February and asked them to collect Rs 100 crore monthly, including Rs 50 to Rs 60 crore from bars and hotels in Mumbai.

Deshmukh, however, has denied the allegations and has threatened to sue the cop for defamation.

Param Bir Singh has called for an immediate "unbiased, uninfluenced, impartial and fair investigation in the various corrupt malpractices of Shri Anil Deshmukh, the Hon’ble Home Minister of Government of Maharashtra before the evidence is destroyed". He has also sought a stay on his transfer from the Mumbaai commissioner of Police post amid a probe by the NIA into the recovery of an explosives-laden SUV which was found parked outside the residence of industrialist Mukesh Ambani last month.

"The petitioner thus apprised the Chief Minister of the true picture for consideration and corrective action, being fully cognizant to the retaliation that is likely against the petitioner for placing the true picture on record," said the petition.

Later, he was transferred from the post of the Police Commissioner of Mumbai to the Home Guard Department arbitrarily and illegally without the completion of the minimum fixed tenure of two years, he added.

The Maharashtra government had said Singh's transfer was done to ensure a free and fair investigation in the Antilia incident leading to an FIR registered on February 25, with Gamdevi Police Station as a result of a car with explosives being found at Altamount Road near Antilia, the residence of industrialist Mukesh Ambani, for a bomb scare.
